Eckhof Manor

The origins of Eckhof date back to the Middle Ages, when a settlement existed here. In 1708, the Eckhof farmstead was newly established as part of the Bülk estate. After several changes of ownership, including Claus Christoph von Thienen, Baron Andreas Liliencron, and Johann Ludwig Krantz, Detlef Hilmers acquired the farm in 1753. In 1770, Hilmers sold Eckhof to Friedrich Wilhelm Conrad Holck. Under Holck's ownership, Eckhof was elevated to an independent noble estate in 1774. He had a new manor house built with a Rococo sandstone portal. Holck abolished serfdom on his estate in 1786. Between 1770 and 1794, the poet Friedrich Gottlieb Klopstock was a frequent guest at Eckhof.
