Falkenberg Manor

The origins of Gut Falkenberg date back to the late 18th century when the Royal Danish Chamberlain Count Heinrich von Reventlou acquired the area around the former free estate "Ruhekrug". Between 1796 and 1804, Count Reventlou had the current Neoclassical manor house built. The construction took place on the remains of the former moated castle "Alt-Gottorp", a 10th-century complex of the Schleswig bishops, which was abandoned by 1161 at the latest. The architect Carl Gottlob Horn was responsible for the design, while the Italian painter Giuseppe Anselmo Pellicia created the wall paintings in the Pompeian style. After Reventlou's death, his son-in-law Adolph Baron von Blome took over the estate. During the German-Danish War (1848–1851), Gut Falkenberg was a scene of combat.
