Flachstöckheim Manor

The von Schwicheldt family was enfeoffed with lands in Flachstöckheim as early as 1350 and steadily expanded their holdings until they owned the entire village by 1428. Conrad von Schwicheldt received permission to build an enclosed farmstead, a Walhof, south of today's Worthlahweg. Around 1718, under Charlotte Eleonore von Schwicheldt, plans for a new estate complex began. The first buildings for craftsmen and day laborers were erected around 1722 on the site of the Old Castle. The construction of the manor started around 1730, with a 1734 plan showing the still-preserved manor house to the north, complemented by a kitchen house, garden, and greenhouses to the east, a brewery to the east, a gatehouse with stables and carriage house to the south, and a barn and sheepfold to the west. From about 1750, Charlotte Eleonore's sons significantly expanded the complex to the west, under the direction of master builders Dinglinger and Heumann from Hanover, adding further farm buildings.
