In Langballig-Freienwillen in the district of Schleswig-Flensburg, Schleswig-Holstein, is Gutshaus Freienwillen, a historic manor and estate house. It is one of the oldest estates in Nordangeln.

History+

The origins of the Freienwillen estate date back to 1433, when Lange Nissen received the farm as a free estate from Duke Adolph VIII and was granted the right to bear a noble coat of arms. The name "Freienwillen" derives from the owner's freedom at the time to dispose of the estate at will. At that time, it was located in the Duchy of Schleswig and belonged to the Amt Grundhof. Freienwillen was closely connected to Glücksburg Castle, a fact commemorated by a plaque in its chapel. The estate was home to noble families such as the von Ahlefeldt and Rantzau.
