Friedenfelde Manor

The origins of the Gutshaus Friedenfelde date back to 1743, when Ernst Philipp von Münchow began constructing a manor house. In 1763, Joachim Erdmann von Arnim, father of the poet Achim von Arnim, acquired the property. Under his patronage, the building underwent a Rococo-style renovation, giving it an appearance with numerous towers. However, a letter from 1811 reports the collapse of two of these towers. Achim von Arnim himself owned the estate from 1804 to 1818 and at times considered living there permanently. Around 1820, or according to other sources between 1822 and 1840, another renovation took place, during which the Rococo decorations were removed. After a succession of owners, the estate came back into the possession of an Arnim, Annois von Arnim, in 1901 or 1904, though he had it managed by an administrator. It was not until his son moved back to the estate in 1923 that he took over its management.
