The Garßenhof manor house, a historic estate, is an example of old half-timbered architecture in Salzgitter. It is one of the oldest preserved half-timbered houses in the city and has been relocated several times to ensure its preservation.

History+

Construction of the Garßenhof began in 1557 under the farmer Lüdeke Dedeke. The original residential building, the oldest part of the current structure, was erected over an old vaulted cellar. Between 1597 and 1602, Peter Drögemüller was mentioned as the owner, before the Garßen family acquired the estate in 1616 and owned it until 1881. During the Thirty Years' War, the estate suffered damage and was only expanded after 1700. A major fire in 1857 damaged further farm buildings, after which the Garßen family sold the estate.
