Gneven Manor

Gneven was first mentioned in a document in 1246. In the 16th century, the estate was owned by the families von Plessen and von Kardorff. After this, ownership changed in 1608 to the von Preen family, in 1701 to the von Walberg family, in 1708 to Levin von Petersdorff, and in 1734 to Christian Siegfried von Bassewitz. In 1890 to Hugo Kruse and in 1925 to Felix Heribert Schoeller (1881–1958). However, he sold the estate as early as 1927/1928 to the fine paper factory Felix Schoeller & Bausch in Neu Kaliß, which his grandfather Felix Heinrich Schoeller (1821–1893) had founded together with Privy Councillor of Commerce Theodor Bausch in 1872 and where he was employed as Technical Director. In 1945, the owners were dispossessed and expelled by the communists. After 1945, the manor house housed the consumer cooperative, the restaurant, the municipal office, and apartments. In the 1990s, the building was renovated and divided into rental apartments.

After 1945, the Schoeller family continued to operate the Schoeller-Hof near Osnabrück, where they had been active since 1895 with the Felix Schoeller Group, founded by Felix Hermann Maria Schoeller (1855–1907), and which is now one of the largest manufacturers of specialty papers.
