Gränitz Manor

Gränitz is located south of Freiberg. In 1378, Gränitz belonged to Castrum Schellenberg (today Augustusburg). Around the year 1524, the local manor belonged to Hans von Rylke, who left it to a Mr. von Güntherode. Christoph Heydenreich acquired the manor from him. Gränitz was then in the possession of Elector August for some time. He had a small hunting lodge built here. At the end of the 17th century, the property was in the hands of Jacob Wilhelm Griebe, who sold it to the Rechenberg family. In 1807, it passed to Emanuel Ehregott Neubert. Neubert significantly expanded the estate. Gränitz was once within the Freiberg ban mile. Only Freiberg beer was allowed to be served here. However, this law must have been relaxed over the years, because a map from 1801 shows that there was a distillery and brewery at the manor at that time. In 1807, the manor burned down. In 1945, the owners were dispossessed and expelled by the communists. After renovation, the castle is now in excellent condition.
