Gränitz is located south of Freiberg. In 1378, Gränitz belonged to Castrum Schellenberg (today Augustusburg). Around the year 1524, the local manor belonged to Hans von Rylke, who left it to a Mr. von Güntherode. Christoph Heydenreich acquired the manor from him.
