Leimbach Manor

The manor house of Schmarsow, an impressive example of late Baroque architecture, is located in the heart of Western Pomerania. Built in 1793, it reflects the rich history and cultural heritage of the region.

Architectural Features

The manor house presents itself as a two-story plastered building with a mansard hip roof. The facade is characterized by a central risalit, which is crowned by a triangular gable. This gable is adorned with a coat of arms, which probably refers to the builder family. The windows are symmetrically arranged and provided with simple frames, which emphasize the elegant simplicity of the building.

The Interior

Inside, some original details have been preserved, including stucco ceilings and historical door frames. The room layout reflects the typical structure of a manor house of that era, with representative living areas on the ground floor and private rooms on the upper floor.

Construction and Early Years

The manor house was built in 1793. In 1945, the owners were dispossessed and expelled by the communists.

The Post-War Period and the GDR Era

After the Second World War, the manor house, like many other estates in Eastern Germany, underwent a turbulent period. During the GDR era, it was used for various purposes, including as a residential building and for communal facilities. These uses often led to structural changes that did not always take historical preservation into account.

After the Reunification and Today

After the German reunification in 1990, the manor house of Schmarsow was privatized. Extensive renovation and restoration measures followed in the subsequent years, which aimed to restore the building to its original splendor. Today, the manor house is privately owned and is partly used for residential purposes and partly for cultural events.
