Libnitz Manor

The stately manor house was built around 1912. However, the history of the estate dates back to 1242. In 1747, the estate was transformed from a farming village into a farm. The manor house, a brick building, was built in the New Objectivity style. The estate had been in the possession of the Rügen princes since the 13th century. From 1747, it was owned by two clergymen from Bergen. The Meyer-Sarnow family acquired the estate at the beginning of the 19th century. Fritz Alfred Meyer was known at the time as "Millionenmeier" (Millionaire Meyer). He owed this name to his considerable fortune, which he received through an inheritance. "Millionenmeier" had the manor house and the extensive farm buildings constructed. Fritz Alfred Meyer met his wife Friderike Sarnow in Putbus. After their marriage, they adopted the family name Meyer-Sarnow. In 1945, the family fled. Tragically, the wife of the estate owner died during this time. Fritz Alfred Meyer died in 1955 at the age of 78 in Karlsruhe. After the expropriation, the manor house has been used for residential purposes to this day. Remarkable are the many original parts of the interior that are still present, especially the staircase with the painted beamed ceiling, the ceiling lamp, and the stained-glass windows. Adjoining the manor house is a park, in which a mausoleum for the Meyer-Sarnow family stands. The mausoleum was built in the Neoclassical style.

In 2000, the manor house was sold by the municipality. The new owner is Tassilo, Marion and Mirko T. Klöckner GbR. Following the extensive renovation carried out between 2001 and 2003, during which particular attention was paid to monument protection concerns, 9 apartments and 4 holiday suites with modern comfort have now been created. Three of these apartments are used by the Klöckner family themselves. The restored ballroom, wine cellar, beer cellar, and the spacious wellness area also located in the basement will be available to residents from April 2004.
