The Manor House of Gut Zichtau+
Gut Zichtau is located in the Altmark, a region in the north of Saxony-Anhalt. The manor house is a listed building and is considered one of the most important examples of rural architecture in the Altmark.
History of Gut Zichtau+
The first documentary mention of Zichtau dates back to 1345. At that time, the Lords of Alvensleben were enfeoffed with the estate. For centuries, Gut Zichtau remained in the possession of this family.
In 1706, the manor house was rebuilt after a fire. The baroque building, which still stands today, was constructed at that time. In the following centuries, the manor house was repeatedly altered and extended.
In 1927, the estate was owned by the Vermehren family. In 1945, the owners were dispossessed and expelled by the communists.
The Manor House Today+
After German reunification, Gut Zichtau was acquired by a private investor. The manor house was extensively renovated and restored. Today, it houses a hotel and a restaurant.
The manor house is surrounded by a spacious park, which was also redesigned. The park invites visitors to take a stroll and relax. Regular events such as concerts and exhibitions take place at Gut Zichtau.
Architecture and Special Features+
The manor house of Gut Zichtau is a two-story baroque building with a mansard roof. The facade is adorned with rich stucco decorations. Particularly noteworthy is the central risalit, which is crowned by a triangular gable.
Inside the manor house, numerous historical details have been preserved, such as the stucco ceilings, the wall paneling, and the fireplaces. The grand staircase in the entrance hall is particularly impressive.
A special feature of Gut Zichtau is the chapel, which is located in a wing of the manor house. The chapel was built in the 18th century and is decorated with valuable frescoes.
Conclusion
Gut Zichtau is a historical gem in the Altmark. The manor house and the park are a popular destination for tourists and locals alike. The combination of historical architecture, cultural events, and gastronomic offerings makes Gut Zichtau a unique experience.
