Nehringen Manor

The small village of Nehringen, first mentioned in 1387, is of great historical significance in many respects and is considered an art-historical gem. As early as 1310, there was a motte here, surrounded by a moat and built with a rectangular defensive tower (Fangelturm), which still exists today. This fortification was intended to protect the Nehringen pass, the crossing of a trade route over the Trebel. Later, it served as a border fortress on the state border between Vorpommern and Mecklenburg, whose course is marked by the Trebel.

After the 30 Years' War, when large parts of Vorpommern belonged to the Swedish Empire, not only was a border garrison stationed here (the still existing Schwedenschanze on the Trebel), but Nehringen also became the residence of the Swedish Governor-General in Pomerania, Johan August Meijerfeldt. He resided as governor of the Swedish crown from 1713 – 1715 and from 1721 – 1747 in Stralsund and began to redesign Nehringen in the Baroque style. The estate complex was expanded by the estate residential settlement behind the church, the farmyard, and the former pleasure garden. His son, Johan August Meijerfeldt Jr., completed the complex as we still see it today around 1780. Incorporating the existing buildings, including the church, he built an ensemble of estate buildings around the courtyard of honor with the central manor house. The impressive charisma of the complex is fascinating and is probably due to the underlying mathematical design principle. The Baroque structures, axes, and buildings, with the exception of the farmyard, are still preserved today.

After the Swedes, the estate was owned by the Lords of Buggenhagen. At the beginning of the 19th century, ownership passed to Baron Schoultz von Ascheraden. Until the expropriation in 1945, the estate was owned by the von Pachelbel family.
