Polchow Manor

Polchow, the oldest village in the former district of Güstrow, was first mentioned in a document in 1216. At that time, Dargun Monastery received the Polchow estate from Casimir, Duke of Pomerania. The monastery also received the patronage rights over the Polchow church from Bishop Konrad of Cammin. During the Reformation, around 1552, the monastery was dissolved. Polchow became ducal property. In 1613, the place became a knightly estate. As a fiefdom, it was granted to Jürgen von Moltke. In 1631, the Moltkes were deprived of the Polchow estate due to their services to General Wallenstein. It was then received by the Swedish General Acke von Tott, then Colonel James Ramsey. In 1653, the Moltkes received the estate back. In 1728, Polchow was sold for 19,666 thalers to Count Henning Friedrich von Bassewitz, and from 1748 to 1750, the Neu Polchow farm was established as an ancillary estate of Groß Ridsenow by Baron von Wendhausen.

Polchow Manor House was designed by Gotthilf Ludwig Möckel and built by Pitschner between 1904 and 1907. A previous building stood in its place, which Wilhelm von Lowtzow, whose parents acquired the estate in 1893, had demolished. In 1934, the estate passed into the possession of the Cottbus cloth manufacturer Fritz Loll, who were forcibly dispossessed and expelled by the communists in 1945. The estate then became a refugee camp. After a checkered history as a social institution, the manor house has been back in private ownership since 2002.
