Preititz Manor

In a valley region flattening out northeast of Bautzen lies the former manor Preititz. Although Preititz is considerably older, documentary evidence only goes back to the 17th century. One reason could have been the devastating wars that swept across the land in previous centuries and contributed to the destruction of historical records.

In the 16th century, however, the Lords of Ponickau and later the von Metzradt family seem to have owned the Preititz estate. By 1603, Preititz belonged to Rudolf von Rechenberg. After the estate came to the von Nostitz family for 46 years in 1655, ownership changed frequently. Only with the acquisition by Carl Gottlob von Ziegler und Klipphausen did continuity in ownership establish itself. His son, Captain Ferdinand Rudolf von Ziegler und Klipphausen, built the manor house in 1789 in place of a predecessor building. The originally planned demolition of the old dilapidated residential building was not carried out, however, but only completed over 60 years later by Chamberlain Heinrich August von Globig.

The Preititz manor house has a simple facade typical for Upper Lusatia with two baroque entrance portals. Due to the symmetrical facade design and the massive mansard roof with a roof turret, the building can quickly be recognized as a rural noble residence. Through the two equally important entrance doors, one enters a vestibule, from which stairs lead to the upper floor. Due to the installation of apartments after the end of World War II, however, the former room structure is hardly preserved.

Following renewed changes of ownership, Wilhelmine Amalie Freifrau von Gärtner finally sold the property in 1865 to the Joachimstein Noblewomen's Convent in Silesia. The convent administrator from 1905 to 1938 was Economic Councillor Karl Otto Klahre. From 1939, veterinarian Dr. Pohle took over the management of the operation until his expropriation by the communists in 1945.

After 1945, the manor house was divided into nine apartments. From 1963 to 1991, the lower rooms of the building also served as a kindergarten, later as storage rooms and accommodation for the local history association.
