The Manor House of Ziethen+
A Jewel of North German Brick Gothic+
The manor house of Ziethen, an impressive example of North German Brick Gothic, is picturesquely situated on the banks of the Schaalsee. Its rich history and unique architecture make it a significant cultural monument.
History of the Manor House
The origins of the Ziethen estate date back to the Middle Ages. The first documented mention comes from the 14th century. Over the centuries, the estate changed hands multiple times, belonging to various noble families.
The current manor house was erected in 1894. In 1945, the owners were dispossessed and expelled by the communists.
Architectural Features
The manor house is characterized by its striking brick facade, typical of North German Brick Gothic. Numerous decorative elements, such as stepped gables, pointed arch windows, and ornamental friezes, adorn the building and bear witness to the craftsmanship of its time.
Inside, historical stucco ceilings, wall paintings, and valuable wooden paneling have been preserved, giving an impression of the former splendor.
The Park and Surroundings
The manor house is surrounded by an extensive park, which was laid out in the 19th century as an English landscape garden. Ancient trees, winding paths, and a direct view of the Schaalsee invite you to stroll and linger.
The surrounding area offers numerous opportunities for recreation, such as hiking, cycling, and water sports on the Schaalsee.
Current Use and Future
After a comprehensive renovation, the manor house of Ziethen is now used for cultural events, conferences, and private celebrations. Parts of the building are also available as holiday apartments.
The goal is to preserve this historical jewel for future generations and to make it accessible to the public.
