Satzkorn Manor

A manor in Satzkorn was first mentioned in a document in 1406. From 1416, it was owned by the Hünicke family, who also possessed estates in nearby Kartzow. In 1731, the estate changed hands when Cuno von Hünicke sold it to the field surgeon Johann Conrad Friedrich Brandhorst. Brandhorst had the manor house rebuilt in the Baroque style in 1739, but he died in 1740 and was buried in the Satzkorn village church, never having lived in the house. The current appearance of the manor house dates from this renovation phase, while the cellar vault dates back to the Middle Ages. Brandhorst's heirs lived on the estate and changed their name to Brandhorst-Satzkorn in 1889. After 1945, the estate was used by the Red Army as a supply depot and in 1950 was converted into a People's Own Estate (VEG), specializing in fruit cultivation. After reunification, the estate was privatized in 1991 and has since changed owners several times. In April 2002, it was placed under monument protection.
