Saxtorf Manor

The origins of the noble Saxtorf estate date back to the 16th century, although the manorial lordship was in the possession of the Wohnsfleth family by the end of the 15th century. In 1494, the Knights of Blome acquired the property, and Hinrich Blome began its systematic development. As early as 1500, Saxtorf passed to the Ahlefeldt family, who held it until 1566. Through marriage, the estate came into the possession of the Rantzau family, who managed it until 1633, before it returned to the Ahlefeldt family, again through marriage. In 1690, the von Brockdorffs acquired the estate, but in 1741, it once again returned to the possession of the Ahlefeldt family. Cai von Ahlefeldt had a Baroque manor house built in the French style in 1648. However, this building was largely destroyed by a fire on the second Christmas Day in 1847.
