Schulenburg Manor

On the territory of the noble estate Schulenburg, there was still a farming village named Schulendorf in the 15th century. The villages of Schmachthagen and Schwienköben were subjects of the estate. In 1803, Count Luckner separated the Meierhöfe Hohenholz and Krummbek from the estate and sold them as independent noble estates. This reduced the estate area from approx. 600 to 220 hectares. After a fire, the manor house was rebuilt in 1912. When the estate districts of Schulenburg and Hohenholz lost their municipal political independence in 1928, they merged with the municipality of Schmachthagen (with Schwienköben) into the newly created municipality of Schulenburg. The manor house underwent a renovation in 1968 and was converted into a nursing home in the process.
