Seekamp Manor

The former noble estate of Seekamp in the north of Kiel is now part of the Kiel-Schilksee district.

The Seekamp estate originated from the endeavor of the Holstein nobleman Christopher Rantzau to be able to satisfy his three heirs with sufficient lands. Rantzau already owned the estates of Knoop and Bülk, on whose territory he built a new farm. Four years after the death of their father, his sons agreed on the boundaries of the three estates in 1575.

Seekamp, which was initially called "Sehekampf", was first mentioned in a document in 1350 and was initially owned by the Wisch family. Seekamp came into the possession of the Rantzau family in 1450, where it remained for almost 200 years until 1632. In addition to the village of Holtenau, the villages of Pries and Schilksee were also located in the estate district. All three villages are thus older than the Seekamp estate and only came into Seekamp's possession through the colonization of the Dänischer Wohld by Holstein noblemen.
