Sehestedt Manor

Sehestedt is one of the oldest knightly estates in the former Duchy of Schleswig. The manor house of the estate was built in 1728 in place of a castle. The moat was filled in 1865. Many buildings of the estate, which is still used for agriculture today, are listed buildings. The noble family Sehested, named after the estate, is still widespread in Denmark with several lines today.

The first mention of the estate dates back to 1322. The estate was owned by the noble family Sehested until 1738. After that, it changed hands several times. In 1838, the estate was acquired by the Rantzau family, who still own it today.

The manor house is a two-story brick building with a hipped roof. The facade is adorned with a central risalit and a baroque portal. The interior of the house has been preserved in its original state in many parts. The estate also includes a large park with old trees and a chapel.

The manor house is still inhabited by the Rantzau family today. The agricultural areas of the estate are leased. The park and the chapel are open to the public on certain days. The manor house is a popular venue for concerts and other cultural events.
