Friedrich Franz I, Duke of Mecklenburg (from 1815 Grand Duke of Mecklenburg-Schwerin) acquired the village of Sparow in 1788. The manor house was built in 1795. At the end of the 18th century, the estate became state-owned land and was leased out.
