Strecknitz Manor

The first documented mention of the Strecknitz estate dates back to 1248, when it was already owned by the Hanseatic city of Lübeck. From 1339 onwards, it was regularly leased to various tenants. The income from the lease served as a prebend for Lübeck's honorary councilors and mayors, with the usufruct often granted to one of the incumbent mayors for life. Beneficiaries included figures such as Heinrich Plönnies and Otto Brokes. In 1662, Mayor Gotthard von Höveln leased the estate from the city, which was financially strained after the Thirty Years' War. Following disputes, Höveln relinquished the lease in 1668. Due to acute financial distress, the city sold the estate in 1685 for 28,900 Courantmark to the merchant Daniel von Melle.
