Tessin Manor

The Slavic settlement of Tessin was first documented in 1230 in the Ratzeburg tithe register, at which time it belonged to the Diocese of Ratzeburg. Bishop Gottschalk granted the tithe from five farmsteads to Herrmann von Blücher, whose family owned the village until 1616. Between 1567 and 1759, the Tessin manor changed hands several times. Subsequently, it was owned by the von Husan family, and from 1779, by the von Lützow family, who acquired lands from Raguth in 1789 and held the estate until 1888. The current manor house, also known as Schloss Tessin, was built in 1835 by the von Bülow family and featured an observation tower, the Katzenturm, as well as a landscaped park. In 1921, Count Isenberg acquired the manor, before it was sold in 1938 to the Reichsumsiedlungsgesellschaft, which divided the surrounding lands. The castle then served as the residence for Mr. von Kumrowski, a shipowner from Hamburg.
