Haller Castle

The construction of the castle, likely by a Count Breuner, served to secure princely roads and properties, incorporating an older structure. From the second half of the 13th century, the Rietenburger family resided at the castle. In 1389, the castle and the village of Waltendorf were sold to Hertlein von Lichtenstein. He endowed the estate to Rein Abbey in 1359, which then exchanged it with Duke Wilhelm for other lands in 1399. In the 15th century, the castle was owned by the Giebinger family. After inheritance disputes, the property was sold to Mathias Aman in 1580, who then passed it on to a servant of the Archduke. Ownership changed frequently in the subsequent years. In 1652, Hans Georg von Kaltenhausen acquired the castle, whose estate at that time was extensive, including a manor farm, stables, gardens, a vineyard, and ponds. In 1713, the property went to Sigmund Müller, who transferred it to his son-in-law, Dr. Friedrich Karl Haller, who gave the castle its current name.
