Harburg Castle, an impressive medieval complex, majestically overlooks the town of the same name. It is one of the best-preserved castles in Southern Germany, offering a fascinating glimpse into past eras. Its origins date back to the 11th or 12th century, with significant structural elements from the 18th century still preserved today.

History+

The first documented mention of Harburg Castle dates back to 1150. At that time, the young Staufer Heinrich (VI.) reported in a letter to his aunt, Irene of Byzantium, about the Battle of Flochberg, mentioning his stay at the castle. In 1299, King Albrecht I of the House of Habsburg pledged the castle to the Counts of Oettingen. After the extinction of this line, Harburg Castle passed into the possession of the House of Oettingen-Wallerstein in 1731.
