Harff’sche Castle Ruins

Around the year 1400, Werner von Vlatten-Merode received a farm in Nörvenich through an inheritance division. Approximately a century and a half later, in 1565, Johann von Harff zu Geilenkirchen had a castle built on this site, which later became known as Harff’sche Castle. About 100 years thereafter, ownership passed to Philipp Wilhelm Freiherr von Harff-Dreiborn. In the 19th century, Maximilian Graf Wolff Metternich acquired the complex. Through marriage, it subsequently came into the possession of the Vicomtes de Maistre zu Gymnich. The castle has been uninhabited since 1880, leading to progressive decay. Between 1904 and 1933, large parts of the roof and gables collapsed.
