Borg Castle

The complex is spread over three islands: the outer bailey, the main castle, and the large park. The buildings grouped over the islands were constructed between the 15th and 20th centuries. The buildings consist predominantly of brick, and quarry stone was also used. The manor house on the main island was built at the end of the 15th century and the beginning of the 16th century. At the beginning of the 18th century, Chief Court Marshal Jobst Stephan von Kerckerinck had extensive renovation and expansion work carried out by the Baroque architect Gottfried Laurenz Pictorius.

In 1988, Haus Borg, which had been in family ownership since 1466, was sold to the industrialist Dreier from Dortmund. Josef Freiherr von Kerckerinck zur Borg, a shark enthusiast and diver, is the only family member who still has a lifelong right of residence in the Pictorius building of the castle and lives there for several months a year.
