Büchel Castle

Haus Büchel, also known as Doktorsburg, is a manor and estate house in Leverkusen-Wiesdorf. Originally a moated castle, it is now a meeting place for seniors.

The complex was first mentioned as a moated castle around 1171. In 1540, Dr. Jakob von Omphal acquired the property and used it as a fortified estate, giving it the name “Doktorsburg.” The current manor house was rebuilt in 1682 under Baron von Merode, a commander of the Teutonic Order. In 1910, the property passed into the possession of the municipality of Wiesdorf. In the 1930s, there were plans to convert the Doktorsburg into a local history museum, but these works were halted by order of Bernhard Rust, the Reich and Prussian Minister for Science, Education and Public Instruction.
