In Ascheberg-Davensberg, Haus Byink is a historic castle with origins as a Westphalian farmhouse in the Renaissance style. The complex was once a two-island moated castle.

History+

The origins of Haus Byink date back to around 1400, when a predecessor building was already owned by the Lords of Ascheberg. In 1558, Heinrich von Ascheberg constructed the current building in the Renaissance style. Just three years later, in 1561, a two-story gatehouse with two semicircular tower-like projections was added. This structure is characterized by one-and-a-half-meter-thick walls made of brick mosaic. Through a legacy, the house passed into the possession of Christoph Engelbert von Beverförde-Werries in 1698.
