Dahlhausen Manor

Gut Haus Dahlhausen in the Hordel district of Bochum is a former knight's estate whose history dates back to the Middle Ages.

It was originally a moated castle. The half-timbered manor house was built between 1794 and 1799.

In the 14th century, the complex was owned by the von Dahlhausen family. In 1546, it came into the possession of Heinrich von Düngelen through marriage.

Goswin von Düngelen married Elisabeth, the daughter of Melchior von Havkenscheid. Their daughter Anna von Düngelen was a canoness of the noble women's convent Kloster Elsey and married Jörgen Christoph von Schell on October 18, 1644, who was enfeoffed with Haus Rechen by the Count of Styrum in 1651.

Karl Ferdinand Franz Philipp Amalius Freiherr von Düngelen died here without male descendants on June 21, 1802.

From 1809, the estate belonged to the Müller/Schragmüller family. The coal merchant Fritz-Gustav Müller, who lived on what is now Schragmüllerstraße, opened a business there, from where he delivered the fine Hordel nut coals as far as the neighboring city of Wanne-Eickel. This coal merchant, as it is called in the Ruhr area, "had a bit of a screw loose," as he mainly grew hemp in his garden instead of vegetables. Therefore, he was called "The crooked Müller" by his neighbors, which then over time became "Schragmüller."

Mining led to mining damage and a drop in the groundwater level. The last owner of the estate, Karl Konrad Schragmüller, litigated and finally sold it in 1890 to the Krupp company, which also owned the neighboring Hannover colliery. Between 1906 and 1915, the Krupp company built the Dahlhauser Heide workers' settlement on the site.

Gut-Dahlhausen was leased by the Krupp company, along with agricultural land, until 1973. The last tenant was farmer Michael. Since 1974, Haus-Dahlhausen has been owned by the Göbel family, who operate a pony farm there and have expanded the complex with 2 riding halls and a restaurant with traditional cuisine. The "Bochum-Hordel" riding club also has its home here.
