A historic moated castle in Wülfrath-Düssel, Haus Düssel, was first documented in the 12th century. Although the original manor house was destroyed in World War II, the preserved outer bailey is still a testament to the history of this former knight's seat.

History+

The first documented mention of Haus Düssel dates back to 1182. The estate was owned by various noble families until it was sold in 1784 for 22,500 Reichsthaler to the merchant Johann Peter Bredt from Barmen. He had the outer bailey, consisting of stables and an administrator's house, rebuilt between 1786 and 1789. The two-story manor house from the late 18th century was destroyed in a bombing raid in 1945.
