Haus Egelborg is a moated castle in Legden, North Rhine-Westphalia. The complex, once situated on two separate islands, now presents itself as an ensemble of outer bailey and main house on a shared area.

History+

The first documented mention of Haus Egelborg dates to 1389. For several centuries, from the 14th to the 17th century, the estate was owned by the Lords of Billerbeck before passing into the possession of the Barons von Oer. The oldest surviving part of the building is the north wing, constructed in 1559 in the Dutch Renaissance style with an octagonal stair tower. An older west wing was demolished in 1710 and replaced by a new Baroque building by 1713, whose central axis is emphasized by a risalit and a roof turret, leading to a double-flight grand staircase.
