Engelrading Manor
The Engelrading Estate is a former castle complex in the Borken district. It is located in the Marbeck district of Borken and was first documented in 1316 as the castle of the knight Goswin von Gemen.
In the 14th century, the castle was besieged and destroyed by Bishop Heidenreich von Münster.
Arnold von Heiden sold the estate in 1638 to Alexander von Velen zu Raesfeld and his cousin, the Baron. In 1698, it was sold for 24,000 Reichstalers. The main house of the estate dates from around 1707, as an inscription above the fireplace indicates. Engelrading was acquired in 1932 by the widow of the manufacturer Wilhelm Essing.
