Gronau Manor

Haus Gronau is a former moated castle in Straß in the district of Düren (North Rhine-Westphalia), which has been a protected monument since July 4, 1983.

No further information is available regarding the history of the property. Already at the beginning of the 19th century, it was in private ownership and subsequently changed owners repeatedly. The almost square rubble stone building, surrounded by moats, dates from the 17th or 18th century. At the beginning of the 20th century, the complex underwent major alterations.

The adjacent associated farm includes, among other things, a large cow shed, a pigsty, a duck house, and several shelters. The farm is laid out in an open square horseshoe shape and opens opposite the entrance portal of the castle complex. The farm entrance, which was originally equipped with a round arch gate, is now reached via an asphalted access road. At the driveway to the property, there is still a restored war memorial with a resting area and an information board from the Gey/Straß Hiking and Tourist Association.
