In the Hagen district of Westerbauer, Haus Harkorten, an almost completely preserved estate, was once the ancestral seat of the patrician and entrepreneurial Harkort family. The complex is a protected monument.

History+

The current manor house was built in 1756/57. Johann Caspar Harkort III commissioned the Schwelmer Meisterschule to construct a new manor house in the Bergisch Rococo style, inspired by Louisa Catharina Harkort. In addition to the manor house, the complex includes an economic building from the 17th century and a granary built in 1707.
