Herbede Manor

The earliest mention of the property dates to the 11th century. Around 1225/27, Haus Herbede was owned by Arnold von Didinghofen, who held it as a fief from the Kaufungen Monastery. From 1311, the von Elverfeldt family took over its administration as burgmannen. In the 14th century, the complex underwent fortification, with the original wooden structures being replaced by a stone house and an adjoining tower. A fire around 1500 severely damaged Haus Herbede. During archaeological investigations in the 1980s, numerous inventory items, weapons, and armor parts were discovered in the basement, presumably having fallen through the ceilings during the fire and remaining unrecovered.
