Kaldenhausen Manor

The first documented mention of the complex as a castle occurred in 1454 in connection with the Preut family, who owned the property until the mid-17th century. Cellar investigations suggest an original square corner tower with an adjoining L-shaped building. After the Preut line died out, the complex was a fief of the Lords of Wardt from 1659 to 1703. In 1703, Haus Kaldenhausen passed into the possession of the Nyvenheim family, who held it until 1870. Following the French occupation of the left bank of the Rhine in 1794, the estate became the first mayoralty (Mairie) of Friemersheim under Baron Karl Christian Friedrich von Nyvenheim. During this period, the manor served as both a residence and the mayor's office.
