Kallenberg Manor
Haus Kallenberg is a former manor and estate house located in the Kirchende district of Herdecke in the Ennepe-Ruhr district of North Rhine-Westphalia. This property was once a knight's seat.
History+
As early as the beginning of the 15th century, Haus Kallenberg served as the ancestral seat of the Lords of Vaerst zu Callenberg. A member of this family, Hermann von dem Varst, was enfeoffed with Haus Heven in Bochum around 1400. His tombstone from 1549 can still be found today in the tower room of the Protestant church of Kirchende. In 1774, the Vaerst family managed to free themselves from the feudal lordship of Werden Abbey. In the same year, Baron Friedrich Goswin von Vaerst zum Callenberg also acquired the properties Haus Weitmar and Haus Bärendorf in Bochum.
