Kambach Castle

Similar structures in the region suggest a medieval foundation that evolved from a simple farmstead. Its first documented mention was in 1463, when Jakob Adam von Broich held it as a fief of the Cologne Cathedral Provostry. This feudal relationship continued until the Napoleonic era. In the 16th century, the castle passed into the possession of the Rummel von Hetzingen family through marriage. Later, in 1686, Daniel von Hetzingen's widow sold the estate to Simon Matthias Gilles, whose family in turn sold it to Johann Bernhard von Cotzhausen in 1699. He had the manor house rebuilt and expanded by 1701, largely demolishing the old building and redesigning it in the Baroque style. The outer bailey was also transformed, and a Baroque garden was laid out. In the 19th century, after Heinrich Wilhelm Ludwig von Cotzhausen was elevated to baron, the family left the castle for financial reasons. It was sold to the Rey family in 1842/45, who renovated and expanded the outer bailey in 1848.
