In Papenburg-Aschendorf is Haus Nienhaus, a historic manor and estate house. It is a structure whose history is rooted in a former castle complex and an administrative building.

History+

The origins of today's Nienhaus date back to 1266, when a castle complex of the Bishop of Münster existed on this site. This fortification was destroyed in 1538 and its remains persisted until 1647. Subsequently, Nienhaus was converted into an administrative building. It passed into the possession of the Arenberg family before becoming private property. Until 2005, few traces of the older structures were known.
