Nienhaus Manor

The predecessor of today's Nienhaus is an old castle complex of the Bishop of Münster (1266), which was destroyed in 1538 and existed until 1647. Nienhaus then became an official residence, later passed into the possession of the Arenbergs, until it became private property. Until 2005, almost nothing was known of the old traces. Today, in the immediate vicinity of Nienhaus, remains of moats and foundations from the period before 1647 are known, as well as house sites of the buildings from the subsequent official residence period. Since 2007, the area where the old castle and the official residence stood has been secured as an archaeological monument.

The Nienhaus official residence has been in private ownership since the 1980s. It is used by ADO Gardinenwerke as a training location. The curtain brand ADO originated in Aschendorf and stands as an abbreviation for Aschendorf.
