The complex, mentioned in 1497, was rebuilt in 1565 and belonged, among others, to the Princes of Salm-Salm.

The moated castle in Oeding was first mentioned in a document in 1371. It was built by the Lords of Oeding. The castle was probably destroyed in the Gelders Wars in 1598.
