Pesch Manor

The moated castle Haus Pesch is located on the northeastern edge of Mülheim, a district of Zülpich in the Euskirchen district of North Rhine-Westphalia, on the Rotbach river.

Haus Pesch was one of 14 farms in the vicinity of Wichterich that belonged to Prüm Abbey. They owned the moated castle from the 9th to the 13th century. In 1246, the farms were transferred to Kurköln as part of the Hochstaden Donation. Haus Pesch probably already existed at that time. It is first mentioned in 1447, when Heinrich von Geisbusch sold his "Hof zum Pesch" to Johann von Kinsweiler. His descendants kept the estate until the 16th century. The Rhenish noble owners changed several times. In 1708, the property came to Baroness Schall von Bell, née von Hompesch-Bollheim. Her husband Heinrich von Reusch had the present manor house built in 1711. In 1751, the estate was sold to Clemens August Schall von Bell zu Morenhoven, who, however, sold it five years later to the Cologne mayor Franz Joseph von Herresdorf. On July 11, 1792, the related Cologne patrician family von Groote became the owners, who still own, inhabit, and operate Haus Pesch as a horse farm today. The von Groote family formerly also owned the knightly estates of Kitzburg, Hermülheim and Dransdorf.

The four-sided farm complex, formerly completely surrounded by moats, has no visible building fabric older than the manor house from 1771.

The manor house is a simple two-story brick building with six or seven axes.

The castle was entered into the monument list of the city of Zülpich on November 4, 1986, under number 76.
