At the beginning of the 18th century, an old farmhouse stood on the site of today's Haus Schönwasser. The farm was named Schoenwater (Old German for Schönwasser) and was sold around 1825 to the tobacco manufacturer Johann Helgers. Around 1830, he built a stately manor house here.
