Sevinghausen Manor

Haus Sevinghausen was a noble seat in Bochum-Wattenscheid. The district Sevinghausen is named after it. The first Lords of Sevinghausen were mentioned as early as 1322. As late as 1832, it was counted among the manorial estates eligible for the provincial parliament in the province of Westphalia. It was owned by a number of noble families. In 1682, a woman of Wenge lived here, around 1800, Clemens August von Geismar and his wife Bernardina von Berswort lived here.

Today, the estate is managed by a farmer. It can be found about 600 m west of Burgstraße.

According to legend, a knight once desired the beautiful young wife of a farmer. She fled with a lantern through the wet and cold November night, but he caught up with her and shot her. Her husband slew the knight with an axe. A ghost with a lantern has occasionally haunted the fields at night ever since.
