Sollbrüggen Manor
Haus Sollbrüggen was originally a medieval moated manor house first mentioned in the 12th century. The estate burned down completely in 1781 and was rebuilt. The oldest surviving part of the building is the gatehouse from the 18th century. The north and south wings date from the 19th century. In 1840, the house was probably converted into a country seat for the silk manufacturer Peter de Greiff in the Neoclassical style, likely based on plans by Adolph von Vagedes.
The complex has been owned by the city since 1925 and has housed the Krefeld Music School since 1955. The listed building features wall and ceiling paintings from the Gründerzeit and Art Nouveau periods in some rooms. The illusionistic paintings on the upper floor were probably created by the brothers Jakob and Benjamin Orth from Mainz. Between 2001 and 2003, all paintings in Haus Sollbrüggen were extensively restored.
The Park+
The nearly 6-hectare park, in the style of an English landscape garden, was created in the 19th century. Its planning is attributed to the garden architect Maximilian Friedrich Weyhe; however, its original form has been significantly altered over the course of history. The park is part of the historic green connection from the Linn district to Krefeld city center. As part of the Euroga2002plus garden exhibition, Sollbrüggenpark was also reconstructed according to existing plans, including the re-establishment of a "pleasure ground." Due to its significance and attractiveness, the complex was included in the "Road of Garden Art between Rhine and Meuse."
Sollbrüggenpark is home to the only Overcup Oak (Water Oak, botanically Quercus lyrata) in all of Krefeld's parks. Additionally, since 1971, it has featured a six-meter-high stele made of Sipoholz, created by the artist Hans Joachim Albrecht. It bears the title "Figurative Double Form."
