In Alt-Refrath, a district of Bergisch Gladbach, stands Haus Steinbreche, a historic manor and estate house. Originally built in the early 18th century, it was closely associated with the construction of Bensberg Castle and now serves as a restaurant.

History+

The origins of Haus Steinbreche date back to 1712. It emerged in connection with the construction of Bensberg Castle, for which building materials were extracted from surrounding quarries starting in 1706. One of the stonemasons working there, Leonard Goudhaire, who was valued for his work on the facades of Bensberg Castle, received a plot of land near the quarries from Elector Johann Wilhelm. There, he erected the manor house in 1712. After his death, the estate passed to his daughter Anna Maria and her husband Otto Siegen.
