ManorDortmund - Holzen
Steinhausen Manor
Haus Steinhausen is a former moated castle located in the Holzen district of Dortmund, northwest of the current Westhofener Kreuz, directly on the A1 motorway. The castle was first mentioned in documents in the 15th century and was the smallest of the knightly seats of the Reichshof Westhofen.
During the Franco-Dutch War, French soldiers under Marshal Turenne conquered the castle in February 1672 by crossing the frozen moat and plundered it. The reconstruction of the complex did not begin until around 1700.
Extensive renovations took place in the 1990s, but the manor house burned down in 1999.
The building is listed as an architectural monument, and the former castle as an archaeological monument, in the monument list of the city of Dortmund.
