In Krefeld-Traar, Haus Traar is a manor and estate whose origins date back to the 13th century. It gave its name to the present-day Krefeld district and was a knight's estate in the Lower Rhine region.

History+

The history of Haus Traar began in the mid-13th century with its construction as a knight's estate by nobles. As early as 1274, the childless builders, Albert von Are and his wife Aleidis von Rode, gifted the property to the Teutonic Order. Despite challenges from relatives, it remained in the Order's possession after a settlement in 1293 until its secularization in 1802. During the Cologne War in 1584 and again in 1641/42 by Hessian-Weimar troops, the estate was destroyed by fires. Reconstruction began in 1647, with the manor house rebuilt in 1664 and the chapel in 1669.
