Uentrop Castle

The origins of Haus Uentrop date back to 1198, when it served the Counts of Berg-Altena to secure their borders against the Prince-Bishopric of Münster. Later, in 1226, it became part of the Märkisch possessions and was dedicated to protecting the Lippe crossing between Uentrop and Dolberg. In the 14th century, the house was owned by various noble families, including the von Grimberg and later the von der Recke, who received it as a hereditary fief. After a fire in 1679, the current manor house was rebuilt between 1713 and 1720 by Anna Magdalena von Bar, the widow of the then owner. The von der Recke family has been associated with Haus Uentrop for over 600 years and managed it until the recent past.
