Venne Castle

The origins of Haus Venne date back a long time, with the first owners presumably bearing the name of the estate. Later, ownership passed to the von Galen family, who were first documented in 1299. In 1410, a member of the von Galen family married the heiress of Haus Ermelinghof. Since 1611, Haus Venne has been owned by the von Ascheberg family. This family served for generations as the Drosten (administrators) of the episcopal district of Werne. Even after the dissolution of the old administrative structures in 1802, Johann Mathias Freiherr von Ascheberg remained a Droste and later became the first district administrator of the Lüdinghausen district.

Haus Venne Castle is situated in Drensteinfurt-Mersch in the Warendorf district, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany, at an elevation of approximately 79 meters above sea level.
